I've been playing Crysis for the last two weeks (game time seems to be hard to come by). I sort of regret not picking this up when it first came out. What I don't regret is paying $5 for it at Circuit City ($40 price tag, 50% and a $10 gift card). :)
I really want to pick up Dawn of War 2 and Empire: Total War, but I really want a price drop or sale. Steam has spoiled me with their weekend sales. I seem to get a $5 game every Friday. Last week was World of Goo, which is a fun distraction that I can play for about 15-20 minutes at a time. The previous weekend was Lost Planet.
So, there you have it, I'm doing my part to stimulate the economy $5 at a time.

What's That About Speaking Too Soon?
Well, I did. I figured out the issue. The Residential Gateway for Uverse doesn't like to route outside and then come back in. That's why I had the router behind a router message any time I tried to publish via WWW. So, Hemidal Doesn't Exist! is back in business. I'll probably be a little more tech, politics and crude over there. I'm going to keep this one more about gaming.

Short Lived
So, Hemidal Doesn't Exist is no more. I rebuilt the OpenSUSE box with Ubuntu and I've got a login for Hannah. I'm also having a beast of a time getting Uverse (switched from AT&T DSL) to pass traffic on port 80 and I'm not keen on throwing the box out in the DMZ (adds another firewall into the mix because I won't leave it out there exposed).
So, we've got a local Wordpress Blog for our house. I might fiddle around with it some and see if I can get it out there, but until then, The Slyngstad Family Blog is for internal use only. :)

Penny Arcade! - The New Hotness
Penny Arcade! - The New Hotness
You know... I use a laptop and my HP can get God awful hot, but I don't think it's ever gotten quite this hot.

The Pile of Shame Shrinks by One
I finished Beyond Good & Evil tonight. All in all, it was a fun game. I'm not sure it really deserved all of the critical praise it received. It's fun, but it's not going to light the world on fire. I'd give it a 7.5. The camera is wonky and the story is thin. The message is good, but it's obvious they wanted to set it up for a sequel, and while one was announced, the current state of that title seems to be in limbo. There hasn't been any new information about it since the teaser trailer was shown. I really doubt BG&E 2 will see the light of day given the current economic conditions.
On to happier news. My horrible beaten streak ended tonight. I no longer have to hang my head in shame because I didn't finish the game I picked to play for the month in the Pile of Shame thread over at Gamers with Jobs. Now I just need to start thinking about what I want to play for February.

What I'm Playing
I'm going to try harder this year to not buy games again. That being said, what does a die hard, tried and true gamer do for entertainment if he decides to not buy games? It's simple, I play the stuff I already have! What was otherwise known as the Pile of Shame (and still is, I do the monthly thread over at Gamers With Jobs) is what I'll be mining in 2009.
I'm currently playing Beyond Good and Evil for the original Xbox. Critically praised and commercially panned, it's a surprisingly fun game. I had given it a spin back when I had a Gamefly account and it really didn't do much for me. I picked it up for $9 about 3 years ago at a Circuit City clearance sale (this is how my pile grows), but I never played it again. So, there was some interest on the GWJ boards for it, so I jumped on the pile and made that my game for January. I'm really enjoying it so far. It's far, far from perfect, but it does have its charm.
I'm still playing Chrono Trigger on the DS. Such a good game. I'm probably about half-way through and I'm put in 12 hours so far. For someone who hasn't sunk that sort of time into a JRPG since FFX, that's pretty impressive.
Finally, we attempted to play some Left 4 Dead last night. We got to the finale on No Mercy on Advanced, but we just couldn't pull it off. Maybe next time. Stupid AI Director threw two tanks at us several times. Just too much damage and too little bandages.
